Lombok - Your Ultimate Island Getaway

Lombok, Bali's serene neighbor, remains one of Indonesia's best-kept secrets. This island paradise is the perfect destination for those seeking relaxation and adventure. From the enchanting Gili Islands to paragliding high above, Lombok offers a range of activities to make your vacation stay truly unforgettable. Here's your comprehensive guide on what to do on this stunning island.

Exploring the Gili Islands

Begin your Lombok adventure with a boat tour to the famous Gili Islands, including Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. These pristine islands are renowned for their crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and opportunities to swim with majestic sea turtles. Whether you're a snorkeling enthusiast or just looking for a tranquil escape, each Gili Island has its unique charm, catering to all types of travelers. We booked a boat tour for one day to the three Gili Islands: Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, and Gili Kedis. There we snorkeled for one day, had delicious food on Gili Sudak and looked at the sunset from the roof of the boat.

Soaring Above with Paragliding

For those who seek a unique perspective of Lombok's breathtaking landscapes, paragliding is the way to go. As you soar high above the coastline, you'll be treated to panoramic views that showcase the island's natural beauty. The experience is not only exhilarating but also awe-inspiring, as you take in Lombok's diverse terrains from a bird's eye view.

Riding the Waves: Surfing in Lombok

Lombok is a surfer's paradise, offering world-class breaks and surf spots. Whether you're an experienced surfer or a novice looking to catch your first wave, there's a surf break suited for you. Selong Belanak Beach, Gerupuk, and Desert Point are some of the many surf spots where you can test your skills and ride the waves.

Beach Bliss and Relaxation

Lombok boasts some of the most pristine and untouched beaches in Indonesia. Mawun Beach, Tanjung Aan, and Kuta Beach are just a few of the many where you can unwind on the soft, sandy shores. The turquoise waters are perfect for a refreshing swim, and the sunsets are simply breathtaking. It's an ideal destination for those looking to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Discovering the Sasak Culture

Lombok offers more than just natural beauty. Immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting traditional Sasak villages. The Sasak people have unique traditions and are known for their handicrafts. Sade Village is a must-visit, providing insight into their way of life and offering authentic handmade souvenirs to take home.

Culinary Adventures

Lombok's culinary scene is a delightful blend of Indonesian flavors. You can't leave without trying local dishes like Ayam Taliwang (spicy grilled chicken), Plecing Kangkung (water spinach salad), and Sasak-style rice dishes. For seafood lovers, there's an abundance of fresh catches from the sea that can be savored by the beach. Aside from the traditional Food there are Restaurants with a wide diversity of the culinary world for everyones taste. One of our favourited was Mama Pizza and Bara with a live music band and food dying for.

Freedom on Two Wheels

Renting a scooter on Lombok gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. Navigate your way to hidden beaches, wander through local markets, and enjoy scenic rides through lush countryside. It's a fantastic way to experience the authentic charm of Lombok, but don't forget to drive safely and wear your helmet!

Lombok's allure goes beyond adventure and exploration; it's an island that offers the perfect blend of relaxation and cultural experiences. The stunning surroundings and friendly locals create a destination that leaves you with cherished memories. Lombok is the place where relaxation and adventure coexist harmoniously, making it a must-visit for travelers seeking a piece of paradise. Add Lombok to your travel bucket list and embark on a journey that promises experiences you'll treasure forever.

See you next time

Love, Kristina

  7. As I also noted on Laura's and Lutz's "Travel Indonesia Guide", thanks for the information about this fantastic vacation destination!

Personally, for Lombok I would add the possibility of climbing Mount Rinjanis (3726 m), the second highest volcano in Indonesia. To do this, you must book a guided tour lasting two to four days, depending on the route. It is forbidden to climb the volcano without a guide or outside of a guided tour.

I imagine it would be fantastic to combine this adventure with activities in the water and on the beach.
