Trip to Pantjoran Chinatown PIK Jakarta

Today, I had the opportunity to visit Pantjoran Chinatown PIK in Jakarta, and it was a fascinating experience. 

When you visit this place, you feel like you are in another country, not dirty Jakarta. The atmosphere is strongly influenced by the typical characteristics of China, starting with the pagoda, the bright red lanterns, and the Guan Yu statue. It is a place for people to pray and express their wishes. Stalls selling various Chinese dishes can be found on every corner. Not all of the food here is halal or identical to China, as there are stores that sell non-halal containers, and there are also several bakeries and words from other countries. Pantjoran Chinatown is a historic neighborhood rich in Chinese culture and tradition.

 

 

We strolled through the alleyways to soak up the Chinese atmosphere. Small stores were everywhere with artistic handicraft products such as porcelain, silk goods, and jewelry. You could also sample tea, coffee, and other Indonesian products. Here, we were persuaded to buy a large quantity of tea. It was impressive to see how alive Chinese culture is here.

Of course, I couldn't resist trying some of the local specialties. I opted for dumplings, which were freshly prepared and tasted simply delicious. There were also many other dishes, such as fried rice and noodles, all of which looked tempting. Kristina and I also tried freshly squeezed juice from bamboo canes, which was shockingly very sweet.

 

 

Finally, we visited the famous historical building Pagoda @ PIK 2 Pantjoran Chinatown.

 

Overall, I can only recommend this place to anyone who wants to escape the stress and noise of the city center. Although there are still many people out and about here, the atmosphere makes you feel like you can take a breather. The food is also very appealing and offers a change from the daily fried food.
