Temples of Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta

Hi everyone, happy to have you back!

We have been with our other two German friends, who are also studying with Patricia and myself here in Jakarta, to the amazing city of Yogyakarta. We had an amazing trip down to the Centre of Java with a train, with witch we could marvel all thouse beautiful rise terasses that passed by us. An absolute recommendation!

Some of you have maybe propably heard of this city. If not then you definetly have seen some of the pictures of the marvelous temples, Yogyakarta is famous for.

 Prambanan Temple

If you have the chance to get to Yogyakarta, you absolutley have to visit the Hindu temples like Prambanan and Borobudur. Here are some facts for you about the beautiful Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, we have vis
ited.

 1. The Temple is the biggest Hindu temple in Indonesia thanks to its position in central Java.

 2. Its roots may be traced all the way back to the ninth century, and it worships the Hindu deities Shiva, Brahama, and Vishnu, known as the Destroyer, Creator, and Preserver, respectively.

3. The building's architecture is a conventional Hindu architectural style that, in the Buddhist and Hindu religions, conveys a spiritually symbolic picture of the cosmos.

4. There are 240 temples total within the complex, including the 3 Trimurti, 2 Apit and Vahana Temples, 4 Patok and Kelir Temples, and 234 Pervara Temples.

5. The Vahana Temples, also known as "vahanas", are located in front of the Trimutri Temple and are dedicated to the three gods Nandi, Hamsa, and Garuda's carriers.

6. The Shiva Temple's center is where the Shiva Shrine is located.

7. There are five chambers in it, and one of them may contain a statue that is three meters tall. On a pedestal, the statue resembles Lord Shiva. You can go and look for the rooms for dedication in the other two Shrines of Brahma and Vishnu.

Borobudur Temple

Sadly, we couldn't make it to the Temple of Bodobudur personally, but out of interest and also through some research I have made, I have found 5 pretty interesting facts I wanted to share with you.

1. The Borobudur Temple was named a World Heritage Site or one of the past's cultural artifacts in 1991. This temple is a cultural relic that symbolizes a brilliant and innovative human achievement.

2. The age of Borobudur Temple is currently considered to be 1200 years or almost 12 centuries. Some discoveries that claim that the building of this temple started in the 8th or 9th century AD substantiate this.

3. According to some historical evidence, this enormous temple's existence was disregarded. The downfall of Indonesia's Hindu Buddhist culture began in the 14th or 15th century AD. The introduction of Islam to Indonesia also occurs this year.

4. On May 27, 2006, a 6.2 Richter scale earthquake also shook the Borobudur Temple. The Yogyakarta earthquake nearly wrecked the neighborhood, but this Buddhist temple stood firmly in place without even the tiniest movement.

5. Nine stupas and two Buddha sculptures were destroyed by a bomb that was detonated at the Borobudur Temple on January 21st, 1985. Husein Ali Al Habsyie, a Muslim cleric, was the bombing's perpetrator.

This bombing's history was not presented in a concise and concentrated manner. According to a number of reports, there were numerous challenges, including conflicts of interest and religious disputes.

Hope you have fun and enjoy your stay!

Until next time

Love, Kristina
